Belfry of Bruges

The Belfry of Bruges offers an exciting medieval adventure where kids can climb 366 steep steps up a 13th-century bell tower to reach breathtaking panoramic views of Bruges' fairytale cityscape. 1. 1.Arrive right at opening (10:00 AM weekdays, 9:00 AM Saturdays) to avoid crowds on the narrow staircase, as passing people going opposite directions can be tricky with kids.
2. 2.Turn the climb into a game by counting steps together or looking for the dates carved into the walls. There are rest platforms every 100 steps or so.
3. 3.Purchase tickets online in advance during peak summer months and school holidays to skip the queue at the base.
4. 4.Bring a bottle of water for after the climb, and make sure kids use the restroom beforehand as there are no facilities inside the tower.
5. 5.The bells still ring throughout the day. If you're near the bell chamber when they chime, cover your ears as it's extremely loud and can startle young children.

Visit on weekday mornings (Tuesday through Thursday) between October and March for the smallest crowds. Saturday mornings when it opens at 9:00 AM can also work well. Avoid midday in summer when tour groups arrive and heat makes the climb more exhausting.

Entry costs approximately 12 EUR for adults and 10 EUR for children (ages 6-25). The climb is not wheelchair or stroller accessible. No elevators available. There are no cafes inside, but the Markt square below has numerous family-friendly restaurants and snack vendors.

Open year-round with consistent hours. The tower can be cold and windy at the top in winter, so bring jackets. Summer offers the best weather for views but attracts the largest crowds. The Belfry is featured in Christmas markets from late November through early January, making the Markt square below especially magical.

De Halve Maan Brewery has a family-friendly restaurant with Belgian classics and a kids menu just a 5-minute walk away. For quick bites, Chez Albert on Markt square serves fresh waffles, pancakes, and hot chocolate that kids love.
