Stanley Main Beach

Stanley Main Beach is one of Hong Kong's most family-friendly beaches, featuring soft golden sand, gentle shallow waters perfect for young swimmers, and excellent facilities including playgrounds and changing rooms. Visit on weekday mornings (9am-12pm) from April to October for the best weather and fewer crowds. Avoid weekends and public holidays when the beach becomes extremely packed. Late afternoon (4pm onwards) also offers cooler temperatures and beautiful sunset views.

The beach is free to enter with clean facilities including showers, toilets, and changing rooms. Several waterfront restaurants and cafes are within walking distance. Access is easy via public bus routes from Central (about 40 minutes), though taxis are more convenient with kids and beach gear.

Swimming season runs April through October when lifeguards are on duty and water temperatures are warmest (24-29°C). The beach remains open year-round but winter months (November-March) are cooler with water temperatures around 16-20°C, better suited for sand play than swimming. Typhoon season (July-September) can cause occasional closures.

The Boathouse offers casual beachfront dining with pizza, pasta, and kid-friendly Western fare plus outdoor seating with beach views. Stanley Market Food Court has various Asian and international options including noodles, dim sum, and snacks that appeal to children.
