Plover Cove Country Park

1. 1.Download offline maps before you go, as mobile signal can be spotty in remote areas of the park. Trail markers are in Chinese and English.
2. 2.Bring plenty of water and snacks as there are very limited facilities once inside the park. Pack out all trash as bins are sparse.
3. 3.The Bride's Pool area is a family favorite with a beautiful waterfall, but arrive before 10am on weekends to avoid crowds and secure parking.
4. 4.Wear proper hiking shoes rather than sandals, as trails can be rocky and uneven. Bring insect repellent, especially in summer months.
5. 5.Take the MTR to Tai Po Market station, then catch minibus 20C or taxi to park entrances. Taxis are more practical with kids and gear.

Visit on weekday mornings (8am to 11am) from October to April for the most comfortable weather and fewer crowds. Weekends get very busy with local hikers. Avoid summer months (June to August) when heat and humidity can be intense for children.

Entry is completely free and the park is open 24 hours, though families should visit during daylight. Public restrooms are available at main entry points but scarce along trails. No food vendors inside, so pack meals and plenty of water.

Best visited October through March when temperatures are mild (15 to 25 degrees Celsius). Summer (May to September) brings intense heat, humidity, and occasional typhoons. Check Hong Kong Observatory weather warnings before visiting during rainy season.

Head to Tai Po Market area (10-minute drive) for family-friendly options like Maxim's Chinese Restaurant or international chains. The Tai Po Waterfront Park area has casual cafes and a McDonald's popular with families needing familiar food after hiking.
