This extraordinary former airport turned park offers families over 900 acres of wide-open space perfect for active play and outdoor adventures. 1. 1.Bring your own bikes, scooters, or skates as the park is massive and you'll want wheels to explore properly. Rentals are available near several entrances if you're traveling without equipment.
2. 2.Pack a picnic, water, and sunscreen as there's limited shade and food vendors are mainly near the entrances. The open tarmac gets hot in summer.
3. 3.Enter through the Columbiadamm entrance for easier access to bike rentals and facilities, or Tempelhofer Damm for the main historical airport building.

Visit on weekday mornings or early afternoons for fewer crowds and more space to spread out. Weekends are lively and social but much busier. Spring and early fall offer the best weather, avoiding summer heat on the exposed tarmac. Sundays are particularly popular with local families and have a festive atmosphere with kite flyers and picnickers.

Admission is completely free. There are basic toilet facilities and some food trucks near entrances, but bring your own snacks and drinks. The park is fully accessible with smooth paved runways perfect for strollers and wheelchairs. Note that opening hours vary by season (longer in summer), so check before visiting.

Best visited April through October when weather is pleasant. The exposed tarmac can be extremely hot in peak summer (July/August) with no shade, so visit early morning or evening. Winter visits are possible but can be very cold and windy with no shelter. Hours extend longer in summer months. The park occasionally hosts family festivals and events during warmer months.

Cafe Tempelhofer Feld at the main entrance serves family-friendly meals, coffee, and snacks. For more options, head to nearby Bergmannstrasse (about 10 minutes away) which has numerous cafes and restaurants including pizza places and ice cream shops popular with families.
