The Citadel of Saladin is a magnificent medieval fortress perched high above Cairo, offering families an exciting journey through Egyptian history with knights' armor, ancient mosques, and breathtaking city views. 3. 3.Bring plenty of water and snacks, as options inside are limited and prices are higher. Sunscreen and hats are essential for protection.
4. 4.Hire an English-speaking guide at the entrance for about 200-300 Egyptian pounds to bring the history alive for kids with engaging stories about Saladin and medieval battles.

Visit during winter months (November through February) for the most comfortable temperatures, ideally on weekday mornings between 8am and 11am to beat both the heat and tour group crowds.

Entry costs around 180 Egyptian pounds for adults and 90 pounds for students (prices subject to change). Modest clothing is required for entering mosques within the complex. Basic restrooms are available but bring hand sanitizer.

Open year-round, but summer months (June through August) can be extremely hot with temperatures exceeding 95°F, making exploration challenging for children. Islamic holidays may affect visiting hours at the mosques within the complex.

Head to Al-Azhar Park nearby (10-minute drive) which has family-friendly restaurants with international menus and beautiful views, or try Cafe Cherye at the park for simple Egyptian dishes and pizza that kids enjoy.
