Colline du Château

Colline du Château (Castle Hill) is a wonderful hilltop park adventure that combines history, nature, and stunning Mediterranean views. 1. 1.Take the free elevator or tourist train up to avoid the strenuous climb with tired kids, then walk down the scenic stairs at your own pace.
2. 2.Pack a picnic to enjoy at one of the shaded picnic areas with incredible views over the Baie des Anges and Old Town.
3. 3.Visit early morning (around 9:00 AM) to avoid crowds and the midday heat, especially in summer when temperatures can soar.
4. 4.Bring plenty of water as there are limited facilities on the hill, and wear comfortable walking shoes as paths can be uneven and rocky.
5. 5.Don't miss the artificial waterfall on the north side of the hill, a favorite photo spot that kids find magical.

Early morning (8:30-10:00 AM) or late afternoon (after 5:00 PM) to avoid midday heat and crowds. Weekdays are less busy than weekends. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures for the uphill climb.

Admission is completely free. The site is accessible by stairs, walking paths, a free elevator (located near the Tour Bellanda), or a paid tourist train. Bathrooms are available but limited, and there are no food vendors on the hill, so bring snacks and water.

Open year-round with extended hours in summer (until 8:00 PM). Spring brings beautiful blooming gardens, while summer can be very hot for the climb. Fall and winter offer clearer views and fewer tourists. Occasional closures during severe weather or high winds.

Head to the Old Town (Vieux Nice) at the base of the hill for family-friendly options like Chez Pipo for delicious socca (chickpea crepes) or Fenocchio for amazing gelato with over 90 flavors. The nearby Cours Saleya market area has many casual cafes with outdoor seating perfect for families.
