Promenade des Anglais and Old Town
Nice's Easter Market transforms the stunning Promenade des Anglais and charming Old Town into a springtime wonderland filled with chocolate sculptures, traditional crafts, and festive celebrations. Kids will be enchanted by elaborately decorated Easter eggs, hands-on workshops, and street performers while parents enjoy the Mediterranean backdrop and authentic Provençal atmosphere. This beloved French tradition offers families a magical way to experience Easter celebrations European-style with plenty of activities designed specifically for children.
Expect colorful market stalls selling artisan chocolates, Easter decorations, and local crafts spread across multiple locations in Nice. Children can participate in egg painting workshops, treasure hunts, and meet costumed characters while street musicians and performers create a festive atmosphere. The Old Town (Vieux Nice) hosts traditional stalls with regional specialties, while the beachfront Promenade features larger displays and activities. The entire area is decorated with spring flowers, oversized Easter bunnies, and themed installations perfect for family photos. Most vendors and activity organizers speak some English, though French is predominantly used.
Weekday mornings between 9:30-11:30 AM offer the best experience with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and full selection of goods before popular items sell out. The Saturday before Easter is the busiest but most festive day with special performances and activities. Avoid midday (12-2 PM) when Mediterranean sun is strongest and locals take lunch breaks, causing some stalls to temporarily close. Late afternoon (4-6 PM) offers pleasant weather and evening ambiance but some workshops may be finished for the day.
Market stalls offer traditional French Easter treats including chocolate eggs, sugar-coated almonds, and colomba di Pasqua (Italian Easter cake popular in Nice). Kid-friendly options include fresh crepes, waffles, ice cream, and fruit stands with local strawberries and oranges. Many cafes surrounding the market areas offer children's menus, though they may not be translated into English. Bring refillable water bottles as fountains are available throughout Nice, and bottled water at tourist areas can be expensive. Try local specialties like socca (chickpea pancake) and pissaladière (onion tart) which most children enjoy.
The Promenade des Anglais is highly stroller-accessible with wide, flat pavements, but Old Town features narrow cobblestone streets that can be challenging with larger strollers—consider bringing a lightweight umbrella stroller or baby carrier. For parking, use the Promenade des Arts underground car park (centrally located) or Sulzer car park near Place Masséna, both within 10 minutes' walk of main market areas. Public transport is excellent—take Tram Line 1 to Masséna or Opéra stops for easy access. Most visitors fly into Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, just 15 minutes from city center by taxi or airport bus Line 99. Note that some Old Town streets are pedestrian-only during the market, making walking the best option once you arrive.
