Kalamaki Beach

Kalamaki Beach is a superb family destination just 8km south of Athens, featuring calm, shallow waters ideal for young swimmers and soft golden sand perfect for castle building. The organized sections offer sunbeds, umbrellas, lifeguard supervision, and gentle water sports, while the free areas provide plenty of space for families to spread out and enjoy the Aegean Sea safely.

1. 1.Arrive before 10am to claim a good spot in the free sections and avoid parking challenges, as the beach gets very busy on weekends and throughout July-August.

3. 3.The organized sections (with sunbeds and umbrellas) cost around 8-15 euros for the day but include access to showers, changing rooms, and closer lifeguard supervision.
4. 4.Pack plenty of sunscreen and reapply frequently, as the Greek sun is intense even on cloudy days, and bring beach toys as the calm waters are perfect for floaties and inflatables.

Visit on weekday mornings (8-11am) from May to June or September to early October for the best experience. These shoulder season months offer warm, swimmable waters (22-25°C) with fewer crowds than peak summer, and morning visits mean calmer seas and cooler temperatures for young children.

Entry to the beach is free, though organized sections charge for sunbeds and umbrellas. Parking is available along the coastal road but fills quickly after 10am in summer. Several beach bars and tavernas line the promenade offering child-friendly meals, ice cream, and restrooms.

Swimming season runs May through October, with warmest waters in July-August. Beach facilities and lifeguards operate primarily June-September. The beach is accessible year-round for walks and play, but winter months (November-March) are too cold for swimming and many nearby facilities close.
