2. 2.Secure all belongings before entering. Monkeys are expert pickpockets and will grab glasses, hats, phones, water bottles, and jewelry. Rent a locker or leave valuables at your hotel.
3. 3.Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip as paths can be slippery, and dress modestly (covered shoulders and knees) out of respect for the sacred temples within the forest.
4. 4.Do not feed the monkeys or make direct eye contact, which they perceive as threatening. Keep a safe distance and never smile showing teeth, as this signals aggression.
5. 5.Hire a local guide at the entrance for about 100,000 IDR. They know monkey behavior, can keep your family safe, and share fascinating cultural stories about the temples.

Visit early morning on weekdays (Tuesday through Thursday) when tour groups are fewer and temperatures are cooler. The dry season from April to October offers the best weather, though the forest is beautiful year-round. Avoid weekends and Indonesian holidays when it gets very crowded.

While entry is technically free, a donation of 80,000 IDR per adult and 60,000 IDR per child is expected at the entrance. There are clean restrooms and small cafes near the entrance, but limited food options inside the sanctuary, so bring water in secure bottles.

Open year-round. The dry season (April to October) is most comfortable for walking, while the wet season (November to March) brings afternoon rain showers but creates a lusher, greener forest. Nyepi (Balinese New Year, usually in March) may affect opening hours.
