Amsterdam Forest (Amsterdamse Bos) is a massive 900-hectare green oasis that offers families endless outdoor adventures just minutes from Amsterdam's city center. The park is completely free to enter and open 24/7, though bike rentals and any water sports activities cost extra. Free parking is available at several locations around the park perimeter, and the forest is accessible via tram 5 from Amsterdam Central Station.

Summer (June to August) is peak season for swimming and water activities, with lifeguards on duty at designated beaches. Spring brings beautiful cherry blossoms and tulips. Winter visits are still enjoyable for brisk walks and cycling, though some facilities may have reduced hours. The park never closes but swimming areas are only supervised in summer.

The park's own Boerderij Meerzicht pancake restaurant is extremely popular with families for traditional Dutch pancakes. Alternatively, head to nearby Amstelveen centrum (10 minutes by bike) for more diverse dining options including child-friendly restaurants.
