Planty

Planty is a beautiful 2.5-mile green belt that encircles Krakow's Old Town, offering families a peaceful escape with playgrounds, shaded walking paths, and lovely gardens. 1. 1.Download an offline map before your visit as the park circles the entire Old Town and it's easy to lose your bearings. The playgrounds are not all marked on Google Maps.
2. 2.Bring a small ball or frisbee as there are plenty of open grassy areas perfect for play, especially in the sections near the Barbican and Florian's Gate.
3. 3.Pack snacks and water as there are limited vendors within the park itself, though you're never far from Old Town cafes and shops.
4. 4.Look for the playground near the National Museum (southwestern section) which tends to be less crowded than others and has modern equipment.
5. 5.The park benches throughout make perfect spots for picnics. Stop at a local bakery for fresh bread and pastries before your visit.

Spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to early October) offer the most pleasant weather with blooming flowers and colorful foliage. Visit in the morning (8-10am) for quieter paths, or late afternoon when local families arrive. Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends.

Planty is completely free and open 24 hours, making it perfect for jet-lagged families or early risers. The paths are stroller-friendly, though some playground areas have gravel surfaces. Public restrooms are limited, so use facilities in nearby Old Town before entering the park.

The park is open year-round, but spring brings beautiful blooming gardens while autumn offers stunning fall foliage. Winter can be cold but the park takes on a magical quality with snow. Summer (July-August) can get quite warm, so visit early morning or evening for comfort.
