Visit on Friday through Sunday mornings between 10:00 AM and noon when the visitor center first opens and wildlife is most active. Spring and fall offer the best wildlife viewing during migration seasons, and cooler temperatures make trail walks more comfortable for families.
Admission is completely free. The refuge is only open Friday through Sunday, so plan accordingly. Bring your own snacks and water as there are no food vendors on site.
Spring (April to May) and fall (September to October) offer peak birdwatching during migration seasons when thousands of birds pass through. Summer can be hot and buggy but also brings nesting activity. Note the limited hours of Friday through Sunday only, with the center closed Monday through Thursday.
