1. 1.Arrive early on weekends, especially during fall foliage season, as the observation tower parking area fills up quickly by mid-morning.
2. 2.Pack layers regardless of the season: temperatures at the summit can be 10-15 degrees cooler than valley areas, and weather changes quickly at this elevation.
3. 3.Bring water shoes for kids enjoying the lake, as the rocky shoreline can be tough on bare feet.

Fall (October-November) offers spectacular foliage and comfortable temperatures, though spring (April-May) brings wildflowers and fewer crowds. Weekday mornings are ideal for avoiding the weekend rush, especially at the observation tower and popular trailheads.

Park entry is free, though there are fees for camping and cabin rentals. The park features restrooms, picnic pavilions with grills, and a restaurant at the lodge. Cellular service can be spotty at the summit, so download trail maps beforehand.

Open year-round with activities available in all seasons. Summer offers lake swimming (Memorial Day through Labor Day), fall brings peak foliage, winter can include occasional snow for a magical mountain experience, and spring showcases blooming rhododendrons and mountain laurels. Extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays allow for sunset viewing from the tower.

The Cheaha Restaurant located in the park lodge serves Southern comfort food with family-friendly options and mountain views. For more variety, the town of Anniston (about 30 minutes away) offers chain restaurants and local diners including Kid Cashier BBQ and Classic on Noble.
