Pro Tips

  1. 1.Start early (6:30-7:00 AM) to avoid afternoon heat and secure parking in the small lot, arrive before 8 AM on weekends or park at the lower lot and add 15 minutes walking time
  2. 2.Bring at least twice the water you think you'll need (1 liter per person minimum), plus salty snacks to keep kids' energy up on the return climb
  3. 3.The 'Maiden Pools' area about 1.5 miles in makes a great turnaround point for younger hikers if the full waterfall trail feels too ambitious
  4. 4.Wear closed-toe hiking shoes with good tread, the rocky sections can be slippery, and watch for cacti along narrow trail portions
  5. 5.Download a trail map beforehand as cell service can be spotty in the canyon

Best Time to Visit

October through April offers the best hiking conditions with cooler temperatures (avoid summer when it's dangerously hot). Weekday mornings provide the most peaceful experience with fewer crowds. Visit after winter rains (January-March) when the waterfall flows strongest and wildflowers bloom.

What to Know

Parking is free but very limited with only about 20 spaces at the upper trailhead. No facilities, water fountains, or shade structures are available, so come completely prepared with supplies. The trail is not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers.

Seasonal Notes

Summer hiking (May-September) is not recommended due to extreme heat and potential for dangerous conditions. The waterfall flows best after winter rains from December through April. Spring (March-April) offers bonus wildflower blooms. Trail remains open year-round during posted hours but monsoon season (July-August) can bring sudden storms.

Nearby Eats

Stop at Beyond Bread (about 10 minutes away) for made-to-order sandwiches perfect for post-hike hunger, or visit Sauce Pizza & Wine for kid-friendly pizzas and a casual atmosphere where dusty hikers are welcome.
