Goldwater Lake

Goldwater Lake is a picturesque mountain lake oasis in Prescott that offers families a refreshing escape with calm waters perfect for young swimmers and plenty of shaded picnic areas. The easy 2.2-mile loop trail around the lake is stroller-friendly, making it ideal for families with little ones, while the designated swimming area and fishing dock provide hours of entertainment for kids of all ages.

1. 1.Arrive early (before 10am) on summer weekends to snag one of the shaded picnic tables near the swimming area,they fill up fast
2. 2.Bring water shoes for kids as the lake bottom can be rocky in spots, and pack bug spray for early morning or evening visits
3. 3.The west side of the lake has the best shade in the afternoon and calmer areas for younger children to wade
4. 4.Fishing licenses are required for adults, but kids under 10 fish free,the lake is stocked with trout and bass

Late spring through early fall (May-October) offers the warmest weather for swimming. Visit on weekday mornings for a peaceful experience, or arrive by 9am on weekends to beat the crowds. Early summer (May-June) is ideal before the monsoon season begins.

Day-use fee is $5 per vehicle. Parking is limited to about 30 spaces, so carpooling is recommended on busy days. Restrooms are available but there's no food concession, so pack your own snacks and lunch. The trail is mostly accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.

Swimming is best May through September when water temperatures are warmest. The lake is beautiful year-round but can freeze partially in winter. Fall offers stunning foliage along the trail. Monsoon season (July-August) can bring afternoon thunderstorms, so plan morning visits during these months.

The Prescott Brewing Company (10 minutes away) offers a kids' menu and casual atmosphere, or grab burgers and milkshakes at Bill's Pizza (8 minutes) before heading to the lake for a picnic.
