Lafayette Reservoir is a family paradise featuring a smooth, 2.7-mile paved loop trail that's perfect for strollers, bikes, and scooters. 1. 1.Arrive early on weekends (by 8 AM) to snag shaded picnic tables near the playground and avoid the parking lot filling up by mid-morning

3. 3.Pack bikes, scooters, or wagons since the entire loop is perfectly paved and mostly flat, making it easy even for young riders

Weekday mornings or late afternoons are least crowded. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures, while early mornings (7-9 AM) on weekends provide cooler weather and easier parking before the area gets busy around 10 AM.

There's a small entrance fee per vehicle (around $3) and daily fishing permits are available if your kids want to try fishing. Parking fills quickly on nice weekends, and while there are restrooms and water fountains, no food is sold on-site, so pack snacks and drinks.

Open year-round with consistent hours (6:30 AM - 6:30 PM daily). Spring brings wildflowers and baby ducks, summer can get quite hot with limited shade on parts of the trail, fall offers beautiful foliage, and winter is quieter but can be muddy after rain. Water levels vary seasonally.

Head to Millie's Kitchen on Mount Diablo Boulevard for hearty breakfast and lunch with a kids' menu, or grab pizza and salads at Postino in downtown Lafayette, which has a casual atmosphere perfect for families with outdoor seating.
