Best Time to Visit

Fall through spring (October-May) offers the most comfortable temperatures and blooming wildflowers. Weekday mornings are ideal for avoiding crowds, especially on popular Cowles Mountain. Summer mornings before 9am work best to beat the heat, as afternoon temperatures can exceed 90°F with little shade.

What to Know

The park is completely free with ample parking at multiple trailheads throughout. There are no food concessions, so pack snacks and plenty of water. Restrooms are available at the Visitor Center and some trailheads.

Seasonal Notes

Spring (March-May) brings beautiful wildflower blooms and green hillsides. Summer can be extremely hot with temperatures over 90°F,visit early morning only. Fall offers perfect hiking weather. Winter may bring occasional rain but trails remain open. The Visitor Center is closed on major holidays.
