Coyote Point Recreation Area is a Bay Area gem where families can pack an entire day's worth of adventures into one beautiful waterfront location. With gentle beach access perfect for young waders, well-maintained playgrounds, shaded picnic areas, and scenic trails overlooking the San Francisco Bay, this 670-acre park offers something for every age and energy level.

Weekday mornings offer the most space and calm, especially Tuesday through Thursday. Late spring and early fall provide the best weather with warmer temperatures and less fog than summer. Aim for morning visits (9-11 AM) before the wind picks up and crowds arrive.

There's a $6 parking fee per vehicle (cash or card accepted at entrance kiosk). The park has clean restrooms, BBQ pits available first-come-first-served, and paved paths suitable for strollers. No food concessions on-site, so pack your own picnic and plenty of water.

The park is open year-round, but summer weekends get extremely crowded. Spring offers wildflower blooms along trails, while fall provides the clearest bay views. Winter visits are quieter but can be foggy and windy,check weather before heading out. The beach is most enjoyable May through October when temperatures are warmest.

Central Park Bistro (about 3 miles away in downtown San Mateo) offers kid-friendly sandwiches and outdoor seating, or head to Amici's East Coast Pizzeria for classic pizza that pleases all ages. Most families pack picnics to enjoy at the park's many tables and BBQ areas.
