Santa Barbara Zoo

The Santa Barbara Zoo is a perfectly-sized hilltop zoo where families can enjoy close encounters with over 500 animals without the overwhelming crowds of larger zoos. Kids especially love hand-feeding the giraffes, exploring the beautiful botanical gardens, and riding the train through the scenic grounds with ocean views.

Weekday mornings between 9:30-11:30 AM are ideal when animals are most active and crowds are lightest. Fall and spring offer the most comfortable temperatures, while summer mornings provide beautiful coastal weather before afternoon heat sets in.

Admission is approximately $20-25 for adults and $15-20 for children (2-12), with free parking onsite. The zoo has stroller rentals, multiple rest areas, and a full café, plus most paths are stroller and wheelchair accessible despite the hillside location.

Open year-round with special events like Zoobilee (May), Sunset Soiree (summer), and Wild Lights holiday experience (November-December). Summer offers extended hours on select evenings. The zoo is most lush and green in spring after winter rains.
