1. 1.Bring binoculars for better bird watching. Early mornings (7-9am) offer the best opportunities to see the most active bird species.
2. 2.Download a translation app before visiting, as most educational signage is in Spanish. Pre-learning a few bird names in Spanish makes it more interactive for kids.
3. 3.Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants, as trails can be muddy, especially during rainy season. Mosquito repellent is essential.
4. 4.Pack your own snacks and water, as there are no facilities or vendors inside the reserve. The nearest shops are a short walk outside the entrance.
5. 5.Take taxis or ride-sharing services directly to the entrance, as the Suba neighborhood can be challenging to navigate for tourists unfamiliar with Bogota.

Visit early morning between 7-9am on weekdays for the best bird watching and fewer crowds. Dry season (December to March and July to August) offers easier walking conditions, though the wetland is beautiful year-round.

Admission is completely free. There are no bathrooms or food facilities inside the reserve, so plan accordingly. The trails are mostly flat but can be uneven, making strollers challenging in some areas.

Open year-round. Rainy season (April to May and October to November) makes trails muddier but brings more vibrant vegetation. Dry season offers easier walking but can be dustier. Migratory birds may be visible during certain months, making winter visits particularly rewarding.

Head to the Suba Centro area (10 minutes by taxi) where you will find family-friendly Colombian restaurants serving arepas, empanadas, and other local favorites. Crepes & Waffles, a Colombian chain popular with families, has multiple locations in northern Bogota and offers familiar menu items for picky eaters.
