Early morning on Tuesday through Friday offers the calmest experience with the most active wildlife. Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) provide comfortable temperatures and excellent bird migration viewing, while avoiding summer heat and bugs.

Admission is completely free. The refuge is closed weekends and Mondays, which is unusual for family attractions, so plan accordingly. There are no food vendors or restrooms on-site, so use facilities before arriving.

Spring migration (April-May) brings the most diverse bird species. Summer can be hot and buggy but offers blooming wildflowers. Fall colors peak in late September. Winter visits are possible during open hours but dress warmly. Note the weekend closures year-round.
