The preserve is free to access for walking and nature observation. Parking is available at the clubhouse, and restrooms are accessible during open hours, though there are no food concessions beyond the golf course facilities.

Spring (April-May) brings peak bird migration and wildflower blooms. Summer can be hot with afternoon thunderstorms common. Fall offers comfortable temperatures and beautiful prairie grasses. Winter visits are possible but dress warmly as exposed areas can be windy and trails may be icy.

Chick-fil-A and Smashburger are both within 2 miles on nearby US-36, offering quick, family-friendly meals. For a sit-down option, Big Daddy's BBQ & Banquet Hall (about 3 miles away) has spacious seating and a kids' menu.
