Sutton Strand

Sutton Strand is a lovely sandy beach on Dublin Bay that's ideal for families with young children thanks to its gentle, shallow waters and safe paddling conditions. The beach offers plenty of space for sandcastle building, collecting shells, and enjoying scenic coastal walks with panoramic views across the bay. It's a peaceful, less crowded alternative to some of Dublin's busier beaches, making it perfect for a relaxed family day out.

The beach is free to visit with roadside parking available (but limited). There are no lifeguards on duty, so supervise children closely. Facilities are basic, so bring your own supplies including food, drinks, and sun protection.

Best visited May through September when temperatures are warmest. The beach can be quite windy and cold during autumn and winter months (October to March), though it's still lovely for brisk coastal walks. Irish weather is unpredictable year-round, so always bring layers and waterproofs.

Sutton village, just a short walk away, has several family-friendly options including The Brass Fox gastropub with a children's menu, and Cafe Bia which offers casual dining with high chairs available. For ice cream treats after beach time, try the local shops along Station Road.
