Visit October through April for the most comfortable weather, with spring being ideal when living history events are more frequent. Weekday mornings offer smaller crowds and cooler temperatures for exploring the fort. Avoid summer midday visits when the fort's interior can become uncomfortably hot.

Entrance fee is $6 per vehicle (up to 8 people), making it an excellent value for families. The park has picnic pavilions and restrooms but no food service, so pack snacks and lunch. The beach area is about a mile from the fort, accessible by car, bike, or a scenic walk.

Summer months (June-August) bring afternoon thunderstorms and high heat,plan morning visits. Winter offers excellent bird-watching opportunities during migration season. Holiday weekends feature special historical programming and demonstrations. The park occasionally closes for tropical weather, so check ahead during hurricane season (June-November).
