Upper Tampa Bay Trail

The Upper Tampa Bay Trail offers families a beautiful, safe paved pathway stretching through Florida's natural landscape, perfect for introducing kids to outdoor recreation. With 7+ miles of scenic trail winding through oak hammocks and wetlands, families can bike, walk, or rollerblade at their own pace while spotting turtles, birds, and other Florida wildlife along the way.

1. 1.Start at the Double Branch trailhead in Lutz for easiest access with ample parking and clean restrooms
2. 2.Bring binoculars for wildlife spotting,kids love searching for gopher tortoises, herons, and osprey nests along the trail
3. 3.Pack plenty of water and snacks as there are no facilities mid-trail; benches and shaded rest areas appear every half mile
4. 4.Visit after rain to see the wetlands come alive with frogs and wading birds, but avoid the trail during afternoon summer thunderstorms
5. 5.Rent bikes or bring scooters,the smooth pavement is ideal for all wheeled activities, and kids tire less on wheels than walking

Early morning or late afternoon, especially October through April when temperatures are cooler. Weekday mornings offer the most peaceful experience with fewer crowds, while weekend mornings attract friendly family cyclists. Avoid midday summer visits when shade is limited and heat becomes intense.

The trail is completely free with no admission fees. Parking is available at multiple trailheads with restrooms at major access points. Bring your own food and water as there are no vendors, and the trail is fully paved and stroller-accessible throughout.

The trail is open year-round, but fall through spring (October-April) offers the most comfortable weather for families. Summer visits are best done early morning before 10am due to heat and humidity. Wildlife viewing peaks during cooler months when animals are more active.
