Caw Caw Interpretive Center

Caw Caw Interpretive Center offers families an immersive Lowcountry nature experience with over 6 miles of trails winding through diverse habitats including marshlands, swamps, and pine forests. Kids can spot alligators, turtles, herons, and other native wildlife while learning about the region's rich ecosystem through interactive exhibits and ranger-led programs in this beautiful 654-acre wildlife refuge.

Visit on weekday mornings (Tuesday-Thursday, 9-11 AM) for smaller crowds and optimal wildlife spotting. Spring (March-May) and fall (October-November) offer the most comfortable temperatures and peak bird migration viewing, making trails more enjoyable for families with young children.

Admission is affordable at around $2 per person (check current rates). The visitor center has restrooms and educational exhibits, but there's no food available on-site, so pack snacks and water. Several trails are suitable for jogging strollers, though some boardwalk sections may be narrow.

Open year-round except Mondays. Summer can be hot and buggy, so spring and fall offer the most pleasant hiking conditions. Winter provides excellent birding opportunities and cooler temperatures for longer trail exploration. Check ahead for seasonal special events like guided night walks and educational programs.
