McBryde & Allerton Garden, National Tropical Botanical Garden

McBryde & Allerton Garden offers families a magical journey through 80+ acres of tropical paradise on Kauai's south shore. Kids will feel like explorers discovering exotic plants, colorful flowers, and hidden water features along well-maintained paths, while guided tours bring the gardens to life with fascinating stories about the plants and local culture.

Visit Tuesday through Thursday mornings for smaller tour groups and the most pleasant weather. The 9:00 AM tour is ideal as temperatures are cooler and kids have more energy. Avoid visiting during Kauai's rainiest months (November-March) when trails can be muddy.

Tours must be booked in advance online and cost around $50-70 per adult with discounted rates for children 6-12 (children under 6 not permitted on most tours). Parking is included, but bring your own water and snacks as there are no food facilities on-site.

Open year-round Tuesday-Saturday, but closed Sundays and Mondays. Gardens are beautiful all year, though summer (May-September) offers the driest weather. Book holiday periods well in advance as tours fill quickly. Some trails may close temporarily after heavy storms.
