Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden is a sprawling mountain sanctuary where kids can meet rescued animals, explore nature trails, and learn about sustainable farming. 1. 1.Arrive early (by 10 AM) to avoid tour groups and enjoy cooler temperatures for the uphill walks. The farm can get quite warm by midday.
2. 2.Wear comfortable walking shoes as the farm is built on a hillside with many slopes and steps. Strollers are not practical for most areas.
3. 3.Download the farm map from their website before visiting. The property is large and cell service can be spotty in some areas.
4. 4.Bring your own snacks and water. While there is a small café, options are limited and prices are higher than in the city.
5. 5.Visit the pig and deer enclosures first thing in the morning when animals are most active and interactive with visitors.

Visit on weekday mornings (especially Tuesday through Thursday) to avoid weekend crowds and school groups. October through March offers the most comfortable weather with lower humidity and cooler temperatures, making the hillside walks much more enjoyable for families.

Admission is very affordable at HK$30 for adults (about US$4) and free for children under 12. There is no parking at the farm itself, so take a taxi from Tai Po Market MTR station (about 15 minutes) or use the free shuttle bus on weekends and public holidays.

The farm is open year-round, but summer (June to August) brings hot, humid weather and frequent rain. Spring (March to May) offers beautiful blooming flowers, while autumn (October to November) provides the most comfortable hiking conditions. The farm occasionally closes during typhoon warnings.

Pack a picnic to enjoy at the farm's designated areas, or head to Tai Po town center (10 minutes by taxi) where you will find family-friendly dim sum restaurants, noodle shops, and Western chains. The Tai Po Mega Mall food court offers diverse kid-approved options including Japanese, Korean, and local Cantonese fare.
