4. 4.Download offline maps before you go as cell service can be spotty in parts of the park, and trail markers may only be in Chinese.

Visit during autumn (October to December) or early spring (February to March) when temperatures are mild and humidity is lower, making hiking much more comfortable for kids. Weekday mornings are less crowded than weekends when local families flock to the trails.

The park is completely free and open 24 hours, though hiking should only be done during daylight hours for safety. There are no restaurants or facilities within the park itself, so bring all supplies you need. Public transportation via MTR is the easiest access point for international visitors.

Summer (June to August) brings intense heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms, making hiking challenging with children. Typhoon season (May to November) may cause trail closures. Winter offers the most comfortable hiking conditions with cooler, drier weather and excellent visibility for views.

Head to Sha Tin New Town Plaza after your hike, which has numerous family-friendly restaurants including international chains and local dim sum spots. The nearby Tsui Wah Restaurant offers Hong Kong-style comfort food in an air-conditioned setting that kids enjoy after outdoor adventures.
