Shedd Aquarium

The Shedd Aquarium houses over 32,000 aquatic animals from around the world, offering kids the chance to touch stingrays, watch playful sea otters, and experience spectacular dolphin and beluga whale presentations. The underwater viewing galleries and Caribbean Reef exhibit create immersive experiences that make children feel like they're diving beneath the waves without getting wet.

Soundings Café offers kid-friendly options like pizza, chicken tenders, and sandwiches. Outside food not permitted, but you can exit and re-enter to picnic on Museum Campus lawn. On-site parking at Shedd North Lot ($30-40) or South Museum Campus Lot. Lots fill early on weekends. Public transit is a more affordable option. Clean family bathrooms with changing tables on all three levels. Nursing room available on Lower Level. Fully stroller-friendly with elevators to all levels. Stroller parking available near exhibits if needed for crowded areas. Fully wheelchair accessible with wheelchairs available free at coat check. All shows accommodate wheelchair seating. Service animals welcome.

Spring and early summer feature baby animals and breeding programs. December offers special holiday decorations and extended evening hours. Chicago winters make this an ideal indoor activity when it's too cold for outdoor attractions.

Museum Campus has limited nearby restaurants, but Soldier Field's Parkside Café (10-minute walk) offers casual family dining, or head to Chinatown (1.5 miles south) for extensive affordable, kid-friendly Asian cuisine.
