There's a $10 daily vehicle entrance fee ($7 for Lake County residents) or you can purchase an annual pass. The preserve has ample parking at multiple lots, flush restrooms, and a café near the beach area during summer months. Most trails are accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.

The beach and water rentals operate Memorial Day through Labor Day. Cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are available in winter when conditions permit. The preserve is open daily year-round from sunrise to sunset, though the visitor center has limited winter hours. Fall color peaks in mid-October, and spring wildflower blooms are spectacular in April-May.
