Visit on weekday mornings during spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) for pleasant weather, active animals, and smaller crowds. Animals are most energetic in cooler morning hours before midday heat sets in.

Admission is reasonably priced with discounts for children; parking is free and plentiful. The zoo offers multiple dining options including kid-friendly cafés, plus picnic areas if you prefer bringing your own food. Stroller and wagon rentals are available at the entrance.

Open year-round with seasonal events including Zoo Lights during the holiday season (November-December) and Zoobilee in summer. Some outdoor exhibits may have limited viewing in extreme winter weather. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures for exploring.

Picnic areas are available throughout the zoo, or head to nearby Spangles (classic Kansas fast-food chain) or Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, both about 10 minutes away and very kid-friendly.
