Lake Nemi

Lake Nemi is a stunning volcanic crater lake nestled in the picturesque Castelli Romani hills, just 30km south of Rome. Late spring (May to June) is ideal when strawberries are in season and the weather is perfect for outdoor activities. Visit on weekday mornings to avoid weekend crowds from Rome. The lakeside is beautifully quiet early in the day, with the best light for photos around 9-11am.

Lake access is free, though boat rentals cost around 8-15 euros per hour. Parking in Nemi village costs a few euros. Several lakeside trattorias offer family meals, and public restrooms are available near the village and lakeside area.

Most beautiful in spring (April to June) when wildflowers bloom and strawberries ripen. Summer can be hot but offers swimming opportunities. Some lakeside restaurants close in winter months (January to February), though the lake remains accessible year-round. Autumn brings cooler temperatures and harvest festivals.
