Michigan Recreation Passport is required ($12 for residents, $34 for non-residents) for vehicle entry. Pack your own food and drinks as there are no concessions within the park, though picnic areas and grills are available throughout.

Best visited May through October. Swimming is most comfortable late June through early September. The park remains open year-round for winter hiking and cross-country skiing, though beach facilities and lighthouse tours operate seasonally (typically May to October). Fall offers spectacular colors and fewer crowds.
