  5. 5.Visit the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center (free admission) at Canal Park before or after your walk to see ship models and watch vessels pass through the Aerial Lift Bridge.

Best Time to Visit

Late spring through early fall (May-September) offers the warmest weather, with weekday mornings being less crowded than weekends. Summer evenings are magical for watching sunsets over the lake, though you'll share the path with more joggers and tourists.

What to Know

The Lakewalk is completely free and accessible, with parking available at multiple points including Canal Park and Leif Erikson Park. Restrooms are located at key access points, and while there are no food vendors on the trail itself, Canal Park has numerous family-friendly restaurants within walking distance.

Seasonal Notes

While open year-round, the Lakewalk is most enjoyable April through October. Winter visits are possible but can be icy and very cold with frigid winds off Lake Superior. Fall offers beautiful foliage, and spring brings migrating birds. Summer is peak season with the warmest weather and most activity.
