The Longleaf Trace offers 40 miles of paved, car-free trail perfect for family biking adventures through Mississippi's beautiful pine forests. This former railroad corridor provides a safe, scenic environment where kids can ride bikes, scooter, or walk while spotting wildlife and enjoying the shade of towering trees. 1. 1.Start at the Hattiesburg Depot trailhead which has ample parking, restrooms, and bike rentals available if you don't have your own equipment

3. 3.The trail passes through six small towns, so you can plan a ride to a specific destination like an ice cream shop or playground
4. 4.Download an offline trail map before you go as cell service can be spotty in forested sections

Visit during spring (March-May) or fall (October-November) for the most comfortable temperatures and beautiful scenery. Weekday mornings are less crowded than weekends. Avoid midday summer visits when temperatures soar; go early morning instead.

The trail is free to use with multiple parking areas along the route. Most trailheads have restrooms, and the Hattiesburg Depot offers bike rentals. Bring your own food and drinks as there are limited services directly on the trail.

Open year-round, but spring brings wildflowers and fall offers stunning foliage. Summer can be hot and humid - visit early morning. Winter is mild in Mississippi and great for riding, though occasional cold snaps occur.
