Carowinds is a massive 407-acre theme park perfectly positioned on the North Carolina-South Carolina border, offering something for every age from toddlers to teens. With over 60 rides including 14 roller coasters, the delightful Camp Snoopy area designed specifically for little ones, and the included Carolina Harbor water park with 27 acres of slides and splash zones, families can easily spend multiple days exploring without running out of adventures.

Visit on weekdays during spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) for the shortest lines and perfect weather. Arrive at park opening around 10am, enjoy rides until early afternoon, then cool off at Carolina Harbor during the hottest part of the day. Sundays are typically less crowded than Saturdays during summer.

Single-day tickets start around $45-$80 depending on the season (buy online in advance for discounts), with season passes offering great value for multiple visits. Parking is $25-$30, and while outside food isn't allowed except for dietary needs, the park has diverse dining from chicken tenders to BBQ. Stroller rentals and nursing stations are available.

Open weekends only in spring and fall, with daily operations from late May through early August. Carolina Harbor water park operates Memorial Day through Labor Day (weather permitting). SCarowinds Halloween event in October and WinterFest holiday celebration in November-December offer special nighttime experiences, though some water attractions close for cooler months.

Just outside the park, try Showmars Restaurant (10 minutes away) for Greek-American comfort food including famous hot dogs and chicken tenders that kids love, or visit Upstream (15 minutes) for a more upscale casual option with a great kids menu, seafood, and outdoor seating that feels relaxing after a busy park day.
