Paseo del Bosque Trail

The Paseo del Bosque Trail offers families a serene escape through shaded cottonwood groves along historic irrigation ditches, perfect for gentle bike rides and nature walks. This flat, paved path is stroller-friendly and ideal for introducing young children to outdoor exploration, with plenty of opportunities to spot birds, ducks, and other wildlife along the way.

Early morning or late afternoon on weekdays offers the most peaceful experience with cooler temperatures and optimal wildlife viewing. Fall (September-November) is spectacular when the cottonwoods turn golden yellow, and spring brings migrating birds and fresh greenery.

The trail is free to access with multiple entry points along its 16-mile length. Parking is available at various trailheads including the Rio Grande Nature Center (small entrance fee). Restrooms are limited to specific access points, so plan accordingly.

Fall foliage (late October-early November) is breathtaking with golden cottonwoods. Spring and fall offer the best weather and bird migration viewing. Summer can be hot but the tree canopy provides good shade. Winter is mild but cottonwoods are bare,dress in layers for crisp mornings.

Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm (adjacent to the trail) offers farm-to-table dining in a beautiful setting, or grab casual New Mexican food at Cocina Azul in Los Ranchos for kid-friendly favorites like quesadillas and tacos.
