Chestnut Ridge Park is a 1,213-acre natural playground in Orchard Park that offers year-round family adventures. 1. 1.Wear waterproof boots for the Eternal Flame Falls trail,the path involves stream crossings and can be muddy, especially after rain. Bring a lighter to relight the flame if it's out!
2. 2.For sledding, arrive early on weekend mornings during winter to claim a good spot on the hills and avoid the afternoon crowds. The park provides some of the best sledding in the Buffalo area.
3. 3.Pack a picnic and use one of the many sheltered pavilions,the park has beautiful scenic spots perfect for lunch breaks between activities.

5. 5.The hike to Eternal Flame Falls takes about 30-40 minutes each way with kids. Start from the Seufert Road parking area for the shortest route.

Visit weekday mornings or early weekend mornings (8-10 AM) to avoid crowds, especially when hiking to Eternal Flame Falls. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable temperatures for hiking, while winter transforms the park into a sledding wonderland. Summer can be buggy on trails, so bring insect repellent.

Parking and park admission are completely free. There are restroom facilities and picnic pavilions available throughout the park. The Eternal Flame Falls trail involves stream crossings and uneven terrain, so proper footwear is essential.

Winter (December-February) is prime sledding season,bring sleds, saucers, and warm gear. Spring brings muddy trails but spectacular waterfall flow. Summer offers shaded hiking but prepare for mosquitoes. Fall features stunning foliage along the trails. The park is open year-round, though some facilities may have limited winter access.

Stop at Grover's Bar & Grill (10 minutes away) for classic American fare including great burgers and a kids menu. For pizza and casual Italian, Bocce Club Pizza on Big Tree Road is a local favorite with generous portions that satisfy hungry kids after park adventures.
