Parque Florestal da Tijuca

Visit early morning between 7am and 10am on weekdays for cooler temperatures, better wildlife viewing, and fewer crowds. The dry season from May to October offers the most comfortable hiking conditions with less humidity and lower chances of afternoon rain showers.

Entry is completely free, and there are multiple access points with parking areas (arrive early on weekends as lots fill up). Bring your own food and drinks as there are very limited vendors inside the park, and facilities are basic with few restrooms along the trails.

The park is open year-round, but the dry season (May to October) offers the best hiking conditions with less rain and humidity. The wet season (November to April) brings lush greenery and fuller waterfalls but also muddy trails and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Some trails may close temporarily during heavy rains for safety.

Pack a picnic to enjoy at designated areas within the park. For meals after your visit, head to nearby Barra da Tijuca or Alto da Boa Vista neighborhoods where you'll find family-friendly Brazilian restaurants and international chains with familiar options for picky eaters.
