Bear Country USA offers an unforgettable drive-through safari adventure where families can safely observe black bears, grizzly bears, wolves, elk, and other North American wildlife from the comfort of their own vehicle. Visit on weekday mornings during late spring or early fall for smaller crowds and active animals. Summer is peak season with longer hours, but mornings before 10am offer cooler temperatures when bears and wolves are most playful and visible.

The drive-through portion takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace, and you can stay in your air-conditioned vehicle the entire time. There's a snack bar and gift shop on-site, plus the walk-through Babyland area included with admission.

Open seasonally from May through November, with exact dates varying by year. Spring offers bear cubs and baby animals, while fall showcases animals preparing for winter. Closed during winter months when bears would naturally hibernate.

Reptile Gardens (just minutes away) has a café, or head into Rapid City (20 minutes) for family favorites like Firehouse Brewing Company or Tally's Silver Spoon with extensive kids' menus.
