Admission is completely free, making this an outstanding budget-friendly option for families. The facility is stroller-accessible with paved paths near the building, though trails may be more challenging. Bring your own snacks and water as there's no café on-site, but there are picnic areas available.

Open year-round with indoor exhibits accessible in all weather. Trails are most enjoyable spring through fall, though winter visits offer unique opportunities for animal tracking in snow. Note the facility closes Sundays and has shorter Saturday hours (10 AM-4 PM). Summer months feature expanded programming and special workshops for kids.

Great Bear Recreation Park is just a few minutes away and has a concession stand. For sit-down options, head to nearby 57th Street where you'll find family favorites like Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen (great sandwiches and mac & cheese for kids) or Minervas Restaurant & Bar which offers a good kids menu in a casual atmosphere.
