Seawolf Park is a unique waterfront destination where kids can explore two historic naval vessels,a real WWII submarine and destroyer escort, then burn off energy at the playground or try their luck fishing off the pier. The combination of hands-on history, outdoor recreation, and stunning harbor views makes this a memorable Galveston stop that keeps kids engaged for hours.
Visit October through April for comfortable weather, ideally on weekday mornings when it's less crowded. Early morning also offers the best chance to see dolphins in the harbor and watch fishing boats heading out, which kids find exciting.
Park admission is free and open 24 hours, but touring the USS Cavalla submarine and USS Stewart costs extra (around $5/adult, $2/child, cash only). Restrooms and covered pavilions are available, but no food is sold on-site so bring your own.
Summer (June-August) can be extremely hot and humid, making the metal ships uncomfortable to tour midday. Winter months offer the most pleasant touring conditions. The park occasionally closes during tropical weather events, so check ahead during hurricane season (June-November).
