River Legacy Nature Center offers families an accessible introduction to North Texas nature with over 10 miles of easy, well-maintained trails winding through forests and along the Trinity River. Early morning weekdays (9-11 AM) offer the coolest temperatures and best chance to spot wildlife like turtles, herons, and deer. Spring (March-May) and fall (October-November) provide the most comfortable hiking weather and beautiful scenery with wildflowers or fall foliage.

Admission to both the trails and nature center is completely free, making this an excellent budget-friendly outing. Parking is plentiful in the main lot, and restrooms are available inside the center during open hours. There's no food available on-site, so pack snacks and water bottles.

The center is closed Sundays year-round. Summer visits (June-August) should be planned for early morning to avoid afternoon heat. Spring offers wildflower blooms and migrating birds, while fall features cooler temperatures and changing leaves. Trails may be muddy or partially closed after heavy rains.
