1. 1.Arrive early (right at 7:00 AM opening) for the best wildlife viewing,deer, birds, and other animals are most active in the morning before it gets hot

3. 3.Wear closed-toe shoes with good traction as trails can be rocky and uneven,sandals aren't recommended for hiking

Visit during fall (October-November) or spring (March-April) for comfortable temperatures and beautiful wildflowers. Weekday mornings are least crowded and offer cooler temperatures, making hikes more enjoyable for kids. Avoid summer afternoons when heat can be intense.

Entrance fees apply (check current rates before visiting). Parking is available near the main entrance. Bring your own food and drinks as there are no vendors on-site. Restroom facilities are available but basic, so plan accordingly with young children.

Spring brings spectacular Texas wildflowers (especially bluebonnets) and mild weather. Summer can be extremely hot, so early morning visits are essential. Fall offers cooler temperatures perfect for hiking. Winter is mild but check for occasional closures during rare ice events. Hours remain consistent year-round (7 AM - 5 PM daily).
