Visit on weekday mornings (Tuesday-Thursday at opening) for the smallest crowds and most comfortable temperatures. Spring (March-May) and fall (October-November) offer the best weather, as summer visits can be very hot, though the animals are still active in the mornings.

Admission is very reasonable (around $15-20 for adults, less for children), and parking is free and plentiful right off I-35. The facility has picnic areas where you can bring your own lunch, though there's also a small snack bar on-site with basic kid-friendly options.

Open year-round with extended hours on Sunday-Wednesday. Summer months can be extremely hot, so morning visits are essential. The zoo occasionally hosts special holiday events and educational programs, check their website or social media for seasonal activities.
