Visit on weekday mornings in spring (March to May) or fall (September to November) for the most comfortable weather and smallest crowds. Summer weekends are popular but hot, so arrive when gates open at 8:30 AM to beat the heat and secure parking near the beach.
Entry fee is $5 per person ages 13 and up (kids 12 and under free). Parking is included with admission. No food concessions on site, so pack a cooler with snacks and lunch. Restrooms and changing facilities available at the bathhouse near the swim beach.
Open year-round with the park gates accessible 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily. Swimming is most popular May through September. Fall offers stunning foliage and cooler hiking temperatures. Winter is quieter and great for birdwatching. Some trails may close temporarily after heavy rains.
Head to Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q (10 minutes away) for family-style Texas barbecue, or try Jucy's Hamburgers on Old Jacksonville Highway for classic burgers and hand-cut fries that kids love.
