Visit on weekday mornings in spring (April-May) or early fall (September-early October) for mild weather, blooming wildflowers or colorful foliage, and smaller crowds. Avoid peak fall foliage weekends (mid-October) when traffic can be bumper-to-bumper.

Entry costs $30 per vehicle (valid for 7 days) or use your America the Beautiful Pass. Limited food options exist at Skyline Resort areas; pack a cooler with snacks and lunch. Restrooms are available at visitor centers and major overlooks along Skyline Drive.

Peak season is fall foliage (October) and summer months can be hot and crowded. Some facilities close November through March, and Skyline Drive may close temporarily due to ice and snow in winter. Spring offers beautiful wildflower blooms with fewer visitors. Visitor centers operate seasonally with limited winter hours.

Stop at nearby Luray for family dining options including Gathering Grounds cafe or West Main Market for sandwiches. The town of Front Royal (northern entrance) offers chain restaurants like Chick-fil-A and local spots like Element cafe with kid-friendly menus.
