Early mornings on weekdays offer the most peaceful experience, with cooler temperatures and fewer crowds. Autumn (March to May) provides the most comfortable weather for hiking, avoiding both summer heat and winter rains. Weekends can get busy with local families, especially on sunny days.

Entry is completely free with public parking available near the main entrance on Newlands Avenue. There are no food facilities inside, so bring your own picnic and plenty of water. Trails are natural and uneven, so sturdy walking shoes are essential for everyone.

Winter (June to August) brings rain and muddy trails, so check weather forecasts and prepare for slippery conditions. Summer (December to February) can be hot, but the forest provides excellent shade. Spring (September to November) offers beautiful wildflowers along the forest edges. The forest is open year-round during daylight hours.
