Boulders Beach offers an unforgettable wildlife experience where children can swim and observe endangered African penguins waddling along the shore in their natural habitat. 3. 3.Bring reef-safe sunscreen, rash guards for kids, and water shoes as the rocks can be sharp and the African sun is intense even on cloudy days.
4. 4.Keep a respectful distance of at least 1 meter from penguins (it's the law). Never feed or touch them, and watch for protective parent penguins during nesting season.
5. 5.Purchase your SANParks Wild Card in advance online if visiting multiple South African parks, as it pays for itself quickly and allows faster entry.

Visit early morning (8:00-10:00am) on weekdays between March and May or September and November for pleasant weather, fewer tourists, and active penguins. Avoid December and January when both tourist crowds and temperatures peak.

Entry costs approximately 160 ZAR (about $9 USD) for adults and 80 ZAR for children with SANParks conservation fees. Facilities include restrooms, boardwalks, and small changing areas, but no food is sold on-site so bring snacks and water.

Open year-round, but breeding season (February to August) offers chances to see fluffy penguin chicks. Water is coldest June through August (48-59°F), warmest January through March (64-70°F). December and January bring peak summer crowds and should be avoided if possible.

The Salty Sea Dog in Simon's Town (5 minutes away) offers family-friendly fish and chips with harbor views and a kids menu. Bertha's Restaurant, also in Simon's Town, serves casual seafood and burgers with outdoor seating perfect for families.
